The Reawakening by Bennie S. Alan

I hope this poem will serve as stairs to the sky. I hope these rhymes will catch your eyes, I hope my hypnotic words will wing you to fly. Fearlessly glitter in the dark and rise! Yesterday, you slayed Like the Cyclops of the Odyssey. The moon is in your eyes, The land of your lineament is rainy, The dark wind has dusted for you, A castle of bewilderment. Dimmed gold of a dog's life, roomed your fate. Stretched to your hand is a tightrope, Of a rebirth of the mighty Phoenix. Dance to the rhythm of new hope. Gloomy days and tears are bounded. Here is the key to the new beginning gate. A painting of a new smile On your fair face. I hope this poem is a kiss of life. I hope this poem brings a new lease on life. Try this time, remembering these words. Try this time, remembering, This is your time and moment. Try this time, remembering, There is a God. Bennie S. Alan is a Liberian writer, musical artist, poet, and storyteller from Monrovia. Inspired by his mother and grandmother, he bega...

Seen Only When Needed

You asked. I gave what I could. Not everything. Just enough. After that, my messages felt quiet. Not because I stopped, but because you stopped seeing. The space between us grew. No fight. No goodbye. Just distance. I stayed available. You stayed away. I understood without words: people remember you when they need you, then forget when the need is gone. I didn’t hate you. I only learned that timing rules hearts, and silence teaches more than promises. Life moves like this: giving, taking, leaving questions. I stand with mine. If only time could listen. KWAKU SONNY ~ Lyrical Dexterity

LYRICAL DEXTERITY 5 vr 2-18 2 You gave us bread, and you gave us cheese You gave us the moon, the stars, and the seas 3 Five senses, we hear, taste, view, and sneeze You gave us fine air and added breeze 4 you paid our fees So we could earn degrees 5 you gave us ice, made us wise so we don't freeze 6 You gave us salvation for free not for lease You showed us the door and gave us the keys 7 According to your riches and glory, you supplied us our needs By your stripes, we are healed from every disease 8 You gave us peace Yet we were not pleased 9 The bible says that the wages of sin is death, We lie, fornicate, steal, and engaged ourselves in a lot more of these And I wonder why our lives have not yet been ceased 10 Though the sweetest God, I can boldly say that you are displeased by our actions, that is why we have gone on our knees to pray saying “Lord please” Forgive us our sins Especially those who have slept with their cousins 11 No losses, no d...

FAITH IGWEMADU ~ Finally Home

FINALLY HOME I was only thirteen. There was a time when I would have played referee. There was a time when I would have joined them in shouting at the top of my voice in a bid to bring back peace. A time when I would have wept bitterly, pleading with my parents to stop. But not anymore. Now I am just their non-cheering audience. Now I weep bitterly but silently. I just watch since realising that this was their most enjoyed time. This was their most heated moment. It was only fair of me to let them be even though it was one - among many others - of their ways to torture me. One minute they were lovers in a world of their own, the next they were enemies but still manage to remain in one world. They kept arguing. Mum was flapping her hands. Dad was hollering with his head bobbing up and down. Mum bent to pick something..... And suddenly, her five inches block heels came flying in my direction. I quickly duck. They didn't miss a beat. Mum was screaming like a ...

KINGSLEY KOJO ANTWI ~ I Am

I AM I am a lost tributary flowing into the marrow of life Meandering my pride in a lost voyage Daunted by the frown of a passing wind Rolled and tossed into the dying dreams of a pauper Sailing through my adversary liquor One shot to heaven Whispering a prayer for his gin to wash me ashore beyond hades A land where the shackles on tomorrow’s feet Outweighs the fairy tales of hamlet I am a hunchback of truth in a lie Carried on the lips of a widow Who curses the sundown that birthed me Still I will rise like the eleventh hour of Judas’ conscious Tell the gatekeeper at Eden The snail fear not the feet of the cheetah For in his wisdom he traded his beautiful hope for an ugly faith Papa’s drums are singing; Sabali! Sabali! The roasted corn will take you home Kingsley Kojo Antwi is an award winning poet, screenwriter and an entrepreneur. He is a graduate from the University of Education – Kumasi Campus, where he studied Information Technology Education. Kojo is also the vice...

IFEANYI ENOCH ONUOHA ~ The True Measure and Definition of Success

THE TRUE MEASURE AND DEFINITION OF SUCCESS. The true measure of success is not the amount of material possessions one has but the way one live his or her life and the impact it has on others. Success can truly be measured in relation to self-development, family-bond, friends and relationships, contribution to humanity's betterment, influence and goals actualized. Many people only focus on material possession when measuring or defining success; that is wrong. Some people have the notion that they are not successful because they don't have a car, money or a degree and other things in life. If you are in this group mentioned, please go beyond yourself and touch someone's life positively then, your service and love will bring you true success and fulfillment. Success is truly measured according to the number of lives you have impacted. Few people know the true meaning and measure of success. Being wealthy or famous is not really being a success because we know many fa...
