Few days ago, we observed a remarkable personality and her new published work. We asked her out for an interview and she agreed gladly. Here are the details of what we got from her.
1. Miss, Please Introduce yourself?
My name is Awodiya Esther Funke.
I am a poet and social campaigner.
Though a native of Ilesha in Osun State,
I was born in Nigeria’s economic capital,
Lagos, where I currently reside.
I hold a Bachelors degree in Sociology from the
University of Ado Ekiti, now Ekiti State University,
and a Masters Degree from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
I am the Initiator "SAFE DREAMS INITIATIVE", which is dedicated to Sickle cell awareness. I am also a member of Poets in Nigeria (PIN), and the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).
I recently unveiled my first poetry book,
"THE FARMER’S DAUGHTER"
(poems on the borderline).I'm committed to using poetry to positively impact people and societies worldwide.
2. What inspires you to write?
My environment and experiences inspires my writing.
3. Do you think African writing is inspiring and innovative enough for international readership?
Africa is a continent rich in culture and value.
This can be put together for the consumption of an international audience who is ready to feed from the African pot in the form of art (writing Drama Poetry).
Presently, the African writer is not doing bad, but there are rooms for improvements.
4. Feminism strives to bring about equality in both sexes.
As a free being, do you think such concept is necessary?
I strongly believe in equity, every life counts regardless of gender and status. Women and children are victims of war, abuse and violence, therefore the rights of women and children should be protected. Every Child should have access to education, most expecially the girl child, because there is a 'HER' in everyone.
5. Most writers like to conceal the subject matter of their work through non-related titles. Does the title of your work reveal it's contents, verbatim?
The message of The Farmer’s DAUGHTER is not concealed from the subject matter. The reader will not get lost in searching for the message of The Farmer’s DAUGHTER.
6. What are your dreams? Do you think fame denotes success?
The dream of every writer is to be heard, I share such dreams too. As a social campaigner, my dream is to build a network of Safe Dreams for Sickle cell warriors and the African Child. Thank you very much.
