KWAKU SONNY ~ Lyrical Dexterity

LYRICAL DEXTERITY 5 vr 2-18 2 You gave us bread, and you gave us cheese You gave us the moon, the stars, and the seas 3 Five senses, we hear, taste, view, and sneeze You gave us fine air and added breeze 4 you paid our fees So we could earn degrees 5 you gave us ice, made us wise so we don't freeze 6 You gave us salvation for free not for lease You showed us the door and gave us the keys 7 According to your riches and glory, you supplied us our needs By your stripes, we are healed from every disease 8 You gave us peace Yet we were not pleased 9 The bible says that the wages of sin is death, We lie, fornicate, steal, and engaged ourselves in a lot more of these And I wonder why our lives have not yet been ceased 10 Though the sweetest God, I can boldly say that you are displeased by our actions, that is why we have gone on our knees to pray saying “Lord please” Forgive us our sins Especially those who have slept with their cousins 11 No losses, no d...

Wole Soyinka -- Celebrating the Literary Giant @82

Happy Birthday to Nobel Laureate, Prof.Wole Soyinka from Naija Kreatives Team. In  celebrating the foremost Nigerian Wordsmith@82, we bring you his 13 famous  beautifully woven words of wisdom In the world of literature, I see prizes as more of a duty to the craft itself, rather than as something for the individual. “Books and all forms of writing are terror to those who wish to suppress truth.” “The greatest threat to freedom is the absence of criticism.” Art is solace; art is vision, and when I pick up a literary work, I am a consumer of literature for its own sake. I cannot belong to a nation which permits such barbarities as stoning to death and amputation – I don’t care what religion it is. The problem with literature, with writing, is that it works sometimes in terms of correction of social ills. Other times, it just does not suffice. No writer has a right to make that much money. Indeed, without diabolical assistance, no writer can. I th...

FAITH IGWEMADU ~ Finally Home

FINALLY HOME I was only thirteen. There was a time when I would have played referee. There was a time when I would have joined them in shouting at the top of my voice in a bid to bring back peace. A time when I would have wept bitterly, pleading with my parents to stop. But not anymore. Now I am just their non-cheering audience. Now I weep bitterly but silently. I just watch since realising that this was their most enjoyed time. This was their most heated moment. It was only fair of me to let them be even though it was one - among many others - of their ways to torture me. One minute they were lovers in a world of their own, the next they were enemies but still manage to remain in one world. They kept arguing. Mum was flapping her hands. Dad was hollering with his head bobbing up and down. Mum bent to pick something..... And suddenly, her five inches block heels came flying in my direction. I quickly duck. They didn't miss a beat. Mum was screaming like a ...

OSUCHUKWU MARK ANTHONY ~ Awesomeness Of Writers

ITOHAN EGHIDE ~ Laundered Fret

In the valley of aspiration  through the alley of desperation I peered into the player's jubilation I feared the delays of faulty dedication I dared to dominate my limitations Like a fry my assumed Rock-steady dedications Were dust My jubilation dead! NSIKAK JACK ~ Untitled

UNTITLED  Light flickers at its approaching dullness, After blazing in the splendour of brightness, Diminished with weakening flames, And fierceness made crippled like the lames, At first, ravishing what it could, Until warmness gave way to menacing cold, Quenching with strength unable to hold. . The freshness of a start, Propelled by the urge to impart, To the soul, it was all it wanted; Perfectly summed up as request granted, But it begins to tell in strength, Straying for lack of concentration, Alas! The soul yearned not for this conclusion. . The light was bright; The soul had strength and might, Yet all went with a swipe, Too sudden the ooze and wipe, Draining with ease yet taking away its ease, Till you fret to release, The subdueing grip of weariness. *** Nsikak Jack is a motivational writer and Poet. An undergraduate student, Studying English and Literary studies at University of Uyo, Nigeria.
