Interview with Phils Emjay

Please tell us your name and what you do?

My name is Maher Joshua a.k.a Phils Emjay. I am an artiste, blogger, poet and activist.

All right. But some posters identifies you solely as a singer?

Not really! I hardly sing.

Yea sure

What's your major concern as a blogger?

My major concern is how to carry every body along, being a source of help to my people and all the entertainers, and more importantly, to spread my roots deeply around the world.

That's sounds  enthusiastic. Can we know the name of your blog?

Of course!  NORTH EAST MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT BLOG.

Since it's all about entertainment, I believe everything on there has to do with the performing arts?

Surely!

How do you cope with multi-tasking, like being a poet and owning a blog purely dedicated to music?

Well! I write whenever I'm inspired. I don't write always, and you'd believe me when I say blogging is a daily activity.

Yeah. To keep a blog going, it must be revamped daily with contents.

Truly

So, do you make money from blogging?

Yea I do.. No Free Work You know (chuckles)

Because a lot of people are confused about the idea of earning from this avenue. Let's just hear first hand from a blogger. How do you make money as a blogger?

Well! It's easy, I don't have a fixed price for posting.. You know,  there's a difference between posting a song and promoting it. They have their charges.

Apart from the regular charges, do you currently run ads on your blog?

Well, not really, but I assure you, I'm working currently on that. Soon enough.

You said that you are an activist. According to you, do you think Nigeria will be better with the way things are going?

Well! Hopefully it will, as humans we shouldn't lose hope in everything.  There's a common adage  that goes like, "There's still hope for the living",  so I have no doubt, and I  believe Nigeria will be great and better some day. It's just a matter of time, things will get better.

We hope so. I would like to ask if you are comfortable with the present regime of President Muhammadu Buhari. Many have complained of the drastic change it has brought on them. Have you been affected...positively or negatively?

Deep sigh!  This is so sad. You know, everything happens for a reason. When a change wants to take place, it has to affect people majorly negatively.  Because losts of irregular  things must happen. Whether I am affected positively or negatively, honestly I can't say...  because there's no single day which proves difficult for me to eat a good meal or change my wardrobe. I can also say I have a  peace of mind I. God knows best.

That's wonderful...maybe a hungry person might  get mad at you for saying that, but that's really really a good thing.

Honestly It is. And In every situation we happen to find ourselves, we should give thanks to our creator...because not everyone are served with the best meal.

Yeah. I think so too.

What's your greatest pain in life?

Well!  Heartbreak was one. And at a time, I felt bad about my poor performance at school. I was distracted and wasn't focused.

Yeah Yeah. Heartbreak is now very common, among other things which proves difficult to be dealt with.

How far have you gone in your education?

Well,  I'm ahead. I'm in 300L by the grace of God, at Federal University of Education, Yola.
I study English (double Major)

That's great.

It's really!

A great many Nigerians are ready to quit the university and take on white collar jobs. Would you abort education and go into something else?

Education is the key to success, you can't  unlock a door without a key. I can't give up, just because I'm swimming in money. I must keep my head straight till the end.

That's so thoughtful of you.

Awww thank you

That question was thrown in because most of our people become totally mad whenever money arrives...they utterly fling education right out of the window.

That's what we say, an unfocused being, having no direction.

Yeah...exactly.

Money fades, but education keeps you going till death.

Apart from music and video promotion, do you have any other job? Or are you okay with the way you are?

Well! I am an aspiring Journalist. I sometimes help my mom, we work at same office from time to time.
She's a Journalist by profession.

Excellent! Does your family knows that you own a website? Do they agree with what you do?

Well, My mom knows am a writer and I do music, but she sometimes hardly subscribe to that. She knows I'm a blogger.  Often times I use her PC  to post and research.

All right.
You must be jovial and friendly in this kind of job. Do you have much friends?

I really do have friends, good and bad, amazing and annoying. Some don't even know they're my friends. I am a man of the people.

Right...

Yeah.

What's your schedule like? How many days does it take to get a song or video advertised on your site?

It depends though!  Everything is on the artistes' side.

That's it...and what keeps you going?

The great God, good people, and my little good work.

Amazing...
Do you have a word for those reading this interview and mostly, many who wants to go into the business of blogging?

Well, for those of you who have a passion for and wants to earn money from blogging, I'd advise you to believe in yourselves, be friendly, patient, consistent, creative, learn to trust people and be original to your clients.

And to those reading this, I would say a big thank you for creating time to go through this piece, I am overwhelmed by your love. And to those who believe in me, I appreciate you all.

It's a delight having you here, as in being able to squeeze out time from your busy schedule. I truly appreciate the time, the thoughtful and  creative words you render. Stay blessed!

Seen Only When Needed

You asked. I gave what I could. Not everything. Just enough. After that, my messages felt quiet. Not because I stopped, but because you stopped seeing. The space between us grew. No fight. No goodbye. Just distance. I stayed available. You stayed away. I understood without words: people remember you when they need you, then forget when the need is gone. I didn’t hate you. I only learned that timing rules hearts, and silence teaches more than promises. Life moves like this: giving, taking, leaving questions. I stand with mine. If only time could listen. Interview With Youth Advocate, Comrade Kufre Matthew

Comrade Kufre, thank you for joining us today! As the Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Alternative Council (NYAC), Akwa Ibom chapter, what inspired you to take on this role and dedicate yourself to youth empowerment? Thank you very much. My inspiration comes from my deep concern about the untapped potential of young people in our society. I have seen many youths with ideas, energy, and passion but without proper guidance or platforms to express themselves. Accepting the role of Chairman of NYAC, Akwa Ibom State chapter, was a call to service—to create opportunities, amplify youth voices, and ensure young people are part of decision-making processes that shape their future. You've led initiatives like PVC awareness and voter registration drives. What strategies have you used to encourage young people to participate in democratic processes, and what impact have you seen? We focus on grassroots engagement—meeting young people where they are, both physically and digitally. Through PVC awa...

The Reawakening by Bennie S. Alan

I hope this poem will serve as stairs to the sky. I hope these rhymes will catch your eyes, I hope my hypnotic words will wing you to fly. Fearlessly glitter in the dark and rise! Yesterday, you slayed Like the Cyclops of the Odyssey. The moon is in your eyes, The land of your lineament is rainy, The dark wind has dusted for you, A castle of bewilderment. Dimmed gold of a dog's life, roomed your fate. Stretched to your hand is a tightrope, Of a rebirth of the mighty Phoenix. Dance to the rhythm of new hope. Gloomy days and tears are bounded. Here is the key to the new beginning gate. A painting of a new smile On your fair face. I hope this poem is a kiss of life. I hope this poem brings a new lease on life. Try this time, remembering these words. Try this time, remembering, This is your time and moment. Try this time, remembering, There is a God. Bennie S.
